Whyte, Just & Moore Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong 6-7 March 2010
With more entries than at this time last year, the organisors at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club predict the next Wooden Boat Festival will be the best ever.
The packed program includes the crowd pleasing Grand Parade of Boats, the Classic Yacht passage race from Melbourne, the Couta Boat passage race from Portarlington, harbour races on Corio Bay, demonstration races by a fleet of 'Herons', the added bonus of the Couta Boat Victorian Titles AND an outstanding shoreside display!
On top of all this, the South Australian Tall Ship, the brigantine One & All AND the topsail schooner, Enterprize will be in Geelong for the weekend!
Free entry to the on shore displays, will allow visitors to meander along jetties and soak in the beauty of this display of well loved wooden boats! Old ocean racers, fishing boats, harbour greyhounds, and ex-pilot launches plus large topsail cutters, putt putts, dories, classic speedboats, yachts and clinker built dinghies. Each one showing the sheer care, love and attention heaped upon them by proud owners.
Amongst the displays will be rope making, boat building demonstrations featuring some of Australia's prominent shipwrights, a display of the Royal Geelong Yacht Club's 150 years of history - plus a BBQ and sausage sizzle to add to the attractions. Truly, a genuine salty flavour to an historic assembly of Victoria's outstanding maritime heritage.
On the water, the magnificent Cavalcade of Sail at the Grand Parade, the Concourse d' Elegance and racing for the Corio Bay Couta Boat Cup with the Couta Boat Victorian Titles! A fleet of 'Herons' zipping around close inshore in demonstration races should not to be missed!
Saturday and Sunday will be massive days out for the public, when all displays and exhibitions will be open to all.
All are welcome and entry is free to the public!
